The Non-Profit Financial Management
Internship Program
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
- Develop Future Talent: Train and evaluate potential future employees with a passion for nonprofit accounting.
- Support the Firm’s Mission: Assist in delivering quality accounting services to nonprofit clients.
- Provide Hands-On Experience: Offer interns real-world exposure to nonprofit financial management, including grants, fund accounting, and compliance.
- Promote Professional Growth: Equip interns with both technical and soft skills needed in the nonprofit accounting field.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate or graduate students in Accounting or Finance
- Successful completion of basic accounting courses (Minimum GPA 2.75)
- Interest or experience in the nonprofit sector (volunteering, student orgs, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
- Be able to work 12-15 hours per week between 9am – 5pm
- Familiarity with Excel: experience with QuickBooks is a plus
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
- Duration 3 months
- Hours 12-15 hours per week
- Compensation Free educational training and monthly stipend
- Location Hybrid (in-office and remote work)
- Team structure Interns are managed by a dedicated supervisor
Orientation & Training – 3 hours per week
- Welcome session
- Company culture and mission overview
- Introduction to nonprofit accounting concepts
- Software & tools training (ex: QuickBooks, Excel)
Project Work – 10-12 hours per week
- Assist with monthly close and reconciliations
- Help prepare financial reports for nonprofit clients
- Support in grant reporting and audit documentation
- Participate in client meetings and presentations
Internship Outcomes
By the end of the internship program, participants will:
- Understand the unique financial and regulatory landscape of nonprofit organizations
- Gain proficiency in accounting software and nonprofit reporting
- Strengthen analytical and communication skills
- Be better prepared for roles in audit, assurance, or financial analysis within nonprofit organizations
- Be provided an opportunity to be hired by a nonprofit organization

After the internship ends, participants will receive referrals to a WorkSource center that will provide:
